New affordable homes being built in Moston
We're building 60 new affordable and sustainable homes designed for people living and working in Manchester.
We’re delighted that building work is underway on our first ever housing scheme in Moston. The 60 new homes being built will be both sustainable and affordable, designed for people living and working in Manchester.
These new homes are located on the former Manchester College Moston Campus, regenerating this unused site and providing much-needed affordable housing in the area. The estate is set to be completed next Spring and we’re excited to make these homes available for people to move in.
The new estate will be made up of 50 two-bed and three-bed houses, 33 of these will be for affordable rent and 17 houses for rent-to-buy. The other 10 homes will be made up of one and two-bedroom apartments, which will all be available for social rent. All the homes will be landscaped with trees and will feature front and private back gardens.
To make the homes sustainable they will all have solar panels fitted and air source heat pumps providing hot water, to make them energy efficient. There will also be the choice of electric vehicle charging points and bike storage facilities on the development for residents' use. All the homes will be landscaped with trees and will have front and private back gardens for residents to enjoy.
Work on the site started last June and is being carried out by housebuilder Watson Homes. This week, we hosted a visit to the site with local councillors and partners.
Nicole Kershaw, Chief Executive of One Manchester, said: “We are delighted to see building work start on this new development, which will provide much needed energy efficient, affordable homes in this community.
“We have a large number of homes in nearby Clayton and Beswick but this is our first in Moston. This scheme is regenerating an unused area of land into a vibrant living space with green spaces, good nearby transport links and all the amenities the city centre has to offer on your doorstep.
“It’s been great to have partners and local councillors along to visit the site, to see first-hand the work that is underway”
Cllr Gavin White, Manchester City Council’s Executive Member for Housing and Development, said: “This new housing development in North Manchester brings together a number of important elements that we hope to see in residential investment in Manchester – high quality affordable housing, low carbon homes to limit running costs to our residents, and bringing brownfield land back into productive use. Add in private gardens, bike storage, electric vehicle charging and various affordable housing options, and already we know that this development will be really attractive to the people of Moston.”
Mike Watson, Director at Watson Homes, said: “Increasing the accessibility of affordable homes has been our priority for the last ten years and the new homes at Moston Campus are no different. However, we don’t want to just meet the demand for affordable housing, we want to create quality and eco-friendly homes. The homes we are building at Moston are designed to be energy efficient, with the goal of reducing resident energy bills long term.”
The new development was designed by TP Bennett and had grant support from Homes England, Brownfield Grant Funding and Recycled Grant Funding.
If you are interested in one of these new homes, we will be inviting potential customers to express their interest in a Moston Campus home later this year.
