Case study: Viri cooks up new business skills with support from One Manchester Business Enterprise
Viri cooks up new business skills with support from One Manchester Business Enterprise
Viri Alonso Lara is one of the latest business entrepreneurs to have participated in One Manchester’s free business enterprise workshops, which take place at venues across Manchester.
Viri attended the One Manchester Women in Business and Facebook for Businesses workshops while preparing to start her own business, La Monarca Mexican Deli. The delightful deli dishes up authentic Mexican street food and sweet bakery treats for delivery or collection.
Before starting her journey, Viri took advantage of the free courses on offer for customers and community members, getting a real grip on some of the key skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur.
Viri Alonso Lara: “I have always wanted to start a business of my own; I knew my cooking skills were valued by many fellow Mexicans and non-Mexicans who love Mexican cuisine. I was not quite sure how to start until I came across information about a workshop provided by One Manchester. I decided to enrol, and I enjoyed it. I met inspirational women there, and this was the pushing I needed to put my ideas into practice finally.
“I learnt a lot about developing a [business] plan, successful stories, forecasting sales, product pricing, costs, registering a business, marketing, creating logos and more.
“This is just the start of a greater idea, but I took from the workshop that the important thing is to take the first step with no fear and keep learning through the process. I want to thank all the people I met in the workshop, particularly Jenny Mathews and Wayne Wilson.”
