Project Update: Grey Mare Lane - Beswick Regeneration Demolition Works

As part of the ongoing regeneration of the Beswick area, we are progressing with the planned demolition of a range of outdated residential buildings, including flats, maisonettes and selected houses.

This work forms a key part of the wider transformation programme for the neighbourhood.

Phase 1 - Completed (August 2024)

Phase 1 was successfully completed in August 2024 and included the demolition of:

  • Grey Mare Lane (evens)
  • Cairn Walk (houses)
  • Blocks 2 & 4, Turnpike Walk
  • Block 2, Banner Walk

Phase 2 - Demolition complete (March 2026)

Phase 2 of the demolition program is now complete, delivered by Metropolitan Demolition.

Although the completion of the demolition was due to finish in April, all the properties listed below have been brought down ahead of schedule:

  • Howarth Close
  • Grey Mare Lane (odds)
  • Dewar Close
  • Blocks 2 & 8, Sledmere Close
  • 4 & 6, Sledmere Close (houses)
  • Newcombe Close
  • Pratt Walk and Randall Walks (houses)

Current Activity

The final phase of the process is now underway, which involves the foundations being removed.

Once this is complete, likely before the end of March 2026, robust fencing will be added to the perimeter of the sites for residents’ safety.

The estate will then be ready for the next stages of the area’s regeneration, enabling new development opportunities that will help reshape and revitalise the community.
