Independent Living Outreach Worker

One Manchester is an innovative provider of housing and community services. Formed in April 2015 from a historic merger between two of Manchester’s largest housing associations – City South and Eastlands Homes. In the subsequent two years the Group has achieved its initial merger aspirations and is now extending and expanding (doubling) its new homes programme across a range of tenures and locations. It currently owns and manages more than 12,000 homes in central, south and east Manchester.
At One Manchester we’re passionate about improving lives and helping neighbourhoods thrive. We see the difference our work makes in our city, and we work together to support our customers and their wellbeing.
As an Independent Living outreach worker, you will provide a range of high-quality housing management services that will enable residents in independent living accommodation to lead and maintain an independent life through the provision of information, advice, guidance, and sign posting to other services. You will take a person-centred approach when assessing customer needs and identify additional services to sustain independent living.
The role is part of an innovative new initiative through which One Manchester is working in partnership with community organisations and tenant groups in Hulme to develop a Naturally Occurring Retirement Community (NORC) model for supporting older people to age well in place.
The NORC model is focused on the co-production of older people’s wellbeing and independence with older people themselves and through partnership with the various stakeholders supporting older people in a particular area. It provides a means of developing a preventative and proactive approach (health promotion, welfare rights advice, social participation) with a particular emphasis on providing enhanced assistance to single-person households and adaptations to housing and the surrounding environment.
You will have experience of working and supporting older people and a sound practical knowledge and understanding of current legislation and best practice as it impacts on older people.
You’ll have brilliant communication and interpersonal skills and a drive to get things done, working with internal colleagues and wider partners to facilitate and enhance independence. We’re looking for someone who is resilient and can work with a positive outlook under pressure, a team player with extensive knowledge and experience of guidance and advice to older people and of tenancy risk assessment and planning.
This is a hugely rewarding role where you’ll really see the difference you make to people’s lives every day. We’re a supportive and flexible organisation that’s really excited about our future. We offer a fantastic benefits package and a genuine commitment to your training and development. But that’s not all. At One Manchester it’s about being proud to make a real and positive difference to people’s lives.
Join us now and see the difference you can make in our great city.
If this sounds like you then apply today, we’d love to hear from you.
Please note that this is a fixed term role for a period of 12 months.
Closing date Midnight Sunday 31 October 2021.
Interviews/assessments will be held on either 8/9 November 2021 and you will need to be available on these dates if shortlisted.
