We have appointed energy, regeneration and services specialist ENGIE to transform disused land in Manchester into Beyers Bahn, a new, modern development of 109 homes.

Located over two sites on Gorton Lane, the £17m project’s objective is to provide extra much-needed affordable housing in Manchester. The 91 apartments will be offered on a rent-to-buy basis, with the 18 three and four-bedroom houses – being built on the site of a former pub – available for shared ownership.

All the homes will benefit from access to green spaces with each house having its own private garden. The one and two-bedroom apartment blocks have also been designed with communal green spaces in mind, which will help foster a community spirit in future residents and provide a space to get out and enjoy the fresh air.

Construction work commenced early in the new year, with the first site expected to be completed in the first half of 2022, and the larger second site is due to finish towards the end of the same year.

The work on the dual sites is being supported by consultants Curtins and OMI Architects.

Judy Noah, Interim Director of Growth at One Manchester, said: “We are delighted to be working with Engie to deliver contemporary, low carbon homes in Gorton. This is a prominent corner site on a major link road and will regenerate a derelict piece of land for the benefit of local people.

“We bought the site in 2018 and have since been working closely with Manchester City Council and Homes England to deliver affordable home ownership through shared ownership and rent to buy. The homes will provide excellent internal layouts, external gardens, bike storage, parking and our modern specification. I am looking forward to seeing the site transform over coming months.”

Ed Carroll, Head of Major Projects at ENGIE, said: “We are very pleased to be partnering with One Manchester on what is set to be a very exciting project for West Gorton. We are transforming this derelict land into a thriving development which complements the local community.

“The scheme is an example of ENGIE’s, collaborative and solution driven approach working alongside our key clients to create placemaking and sustainable communities. We are all looking forward to getting started on site and delivering affordable housing in the Manchester Area.”
